One-Day Novel course this Sun: Course Outline!

FROM THE MESSY MIDDLE TO THE END: One -Day Novel- writing course with Yvonne Cassidy and Yvonne Cullen!

Morning Session: 10am – 1pm

The first part of the day will go back to the beginning, revisiting the central idea behind your novel, identifying what exactly it is you want to say and exploring how this is currently showing up on the page.

Specifically, we will look at conflict, character development and how your synopsis can be a guiding light to keep your novel on track. At this point we will do a practical exercise where each class member will develop a synopsis for their novel in progress.

Before lunch we will also have time to workshop some of the participants’ novels in progress.

Afternoon Session: 2pm – 5pm

After a restorative lunch, we will get under the bonnet of plotting; exploring how much of it is done on and off the page and the role that ‘backstory’ has to play alongside the forward momentum of narrative. In order to illustrate this, tools and handouts will be provided so participants can apply these techniques to their own work.

After a break for coffee, the remaining participants will workshop their novels in progress.

We’ll wrap up the day by taking a look at the process of finalising and editing your manuscript, the role of each draft and the best strategies for approaching publishers and agents.

Course fee €100. Four places still remaining. Contact Yvonne on 086 1701418 or at yvonnesworkshops@gmail.com immediately. If you are attending and can email a 2,500 word sample to me at the above email address, it will be read and marked up for you by both Yvonnes!
